Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in Moscow on Thursday, as part of the 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, Putin expressed his intention to discuss with his Syrian counterpart the situation in the Middle East region, which «tends to worsen».
It was reported that the two presidents also discussed trade, economic ties and issues of common interest.
‘Given all the developments currently taking place in the world as a whole and in the Eurasian region, our meeting today seems very important to discuss all the details of the development of these events, to discuss possible perspectives and scenarios», said the Syrian president.
Bashar al-Assad stressed the high level of relations between Syria and Russia, which has persisted despite «very difficult tests» and «complex processes of transformation» who have experienced Moscow and Damascus.
The Syrian leader said that over the decades, relations between Russia and Syria have maintained their level of trust, which serves as an indicator of the maturity of our peoples.
